Question

A body cools at the rate of 0.5oC/ minute when it is 25oC above the surroundings. Calculate the rate of cooling when it is 15oC above the same surroundings.

Open in App
Solution

Rate of cooling is directly proportional to the temperature difference between the body and the surroundings. For temperature difference of 250C, the rate is 0.50C/min, let for 150C the rate be x0C/min. Since they are directly proportional we can write,
0.5x=2515
x=0.5×1525=0.30C/min
