Question

A body floats with 2/5 th of its volume above the surface of water. Calculate the density of the material of the body in gcmgcm-3

Open in App
Solution

Let volume of block be V and density of meterial be d.
Volume of block immersed = 3/5 V
By the principle of flotation,
Weight of the block = Weight of the water displaced by the immersed part of the block
i.e., V × d× g = 3/5 V× 1 ×g
d = 3/5
= 0.6 g cm–3
(Here the density of water is taken as 1 g cm–3).
