Potential energy of a body executing SHM for a displacement x is given by
E1=12kx2 .....(1)
Potential energy of a body executing SHM for a displacement y is given by
E2=12ky2 .......(2)
Potential energy of a body executing SHM for a displacement (x+y) is given by
E=12k(x+y)2
E=12k(x2+y2+2xy)
From (1) and (2) we get,
E=E1+E2+k2E1k2E2k
E=E1+E2+2E1E2
Thus, option (c) is the correct answer.
