Question

A body makes angular simple harmonic motion of amplitude π/10 rad and time period 0.05 s. If the body is at a displacement θ=π/10 rad at t=0,write the equation giving angular displacement as a function of time.

Solution

We know that ω=2πT=2π0.05=40π
Let the equation be θ=θocos(ωt+ϕ)
At t=0, θo=θ=π10
π10=π10cos(ϕ)
cosϕ=1
So ϕ=0
So θ=π10cos(40πt)
