Given
m=0.1kg
v=10m/s
k=1000N/m
As moving object strikes on the spring, the kinetic energy of object is used in compressing the spring.
Kinetic energy of object = Work done in compression
1/2mv2=1/2kx2
x2=mv2/k
x2=0.1×102/1000
x2=102
x=0.1m
Compression produced in the spring is 0.1m.
Hence,
option (B) is correct answer.
