Question

A body of mass 100g is made just to slide on a rough surface by applying a force of 0.8N. Then the coefficient of friction is 8×10x. Find the value of x. (Take g =10 m s2).

Open in App
Solution

If μ be the coefficient of friction, the friction force f=μmg
As the friction force opposes the motion, so in equilibrium, the friction force is equal to the applying force.
So, μmg=0.8 or μ=0.8(0.1)(10)=0.8=8×101
Thus, the value of x is 1.
