Question

A body of mass 2 kg is being dragged with a uniform velocity of 2 m/s on a rough horizontal plane. The co-efficient of friction between the body and the surface is 0.20, 4.2 J = 1 Calorie and g=9.8 m/s2. The amount of heat generated in 5 seconds is

Solution

Displacement S = (velocity v × (time t)

S=v×t

S=vt=2×5=10 m

Q = workdone against frictional force (f)

=(f)×(S)=(μmg)(S)=0.2×2×9.8×10=39.2J

Heat generated =39.24.2 Calorie (4.2 J=1 Cal)

=9.33 Calorie
