A body of mass 2 kg moving on a horizontal surface with speed $v_{i} = 1 m s^{- 1}$ enters a rough patch ranging from x = 0.5 m to x = 1.5 m. If the body comes to rest after crossing the patch, then find the retarding force on body.

: $w = Δ k_{E}$

$f . s = \frac{1}{2} m (v^{2} - u^{2})$

$- f \times (1.5 - 0.5) = \frac{1}{2} \times 2 \times (0 - 1)$

$f = 1 N$
