Question

A body of mass 5 kg is moving with a velocity 10 metre per second. Find its kinetic energy .Find the ratio of initial kinetic energy and final kinetic energy if (A) its mass is doubled (B) its velocity is made three times.

Solution

Dear Student ,
Here in this case the mass of the body , m = 5 kg and velocity = v = 10 m/s .
So , the kinetic energy is , Ek=12mv2=12×5×100=250 J(A) Now when the mass is doubled then ,final kinetic energy is,Ef=12m'v2=12×3×5×100=750 JSo , ratio of initial kinetic energy to final kinetic energy is ,Ei:Ef=250:750=1:3BNow when the mass is doubled then ,final kinetic energy is,Ef=12mv'2=12×5×900=2250 JSo , ratio of initial kinetic energy to final kinetic energy is ,Ei:Ef=250:2250=1:9
