Question

A body starting from rest travels with uniform acceleration. If it travels 100min 5s, what is the value of acceleration?

Solution

Step 1: Given and to find
Initial velocity, u=0

Distance, s=100m

Time, t=5s

We need to find the acceleration

Step 2: Formula

  1. We know that a change in speed with respect to time is called acceleration.
  2. We know that formula of the equation of motion i.e s=ut+12at2…(I)

Where u is initial velocity and a is acceleration and t is time

Step 3: Finding acceleration

  1. Putting all given values in equation (i) we get

100=0×5+12×a×52100=25a225a=200a=20025=8ms-2

Hence, the value of acceleration is 8ms-2.
