A book placed on a table is at rest. Is the force of friction acting on it or not? Explain?

Solution

A friction force exist only when, there is tendancy of relative motion between objects in contect. In a given situation a block is simply kept on the table and the table is in rest so there is no tandancy of relative motion between book and table. hence no friction act.
