A bottle weighs 20g when empty and when completely filled with water, weighs 50g and when filled with kerosene , it weighs 44g . Calculate the volume of bottle and density of kerosene oil
Let Vb be the volume of the bottle whose mass is 20 g.
When filled with water the bottle weighs 50 g
Therefore, Mass of water in the bottle, Mw = 50 – 20 = 30 g
Density of water =
Mw/Vb = 1 g/cc
V=Mw/1
But,Mw=30
so,=> Vb =30/1 cc =30 cc
So, the volume of the bottle is =Vb= 30 cc.
When filled with kerosene the bottle weighs 44 g.
So, mass of kerosene in the bottle, mk = 44 – 20 = 24 g
Therefore, density of the kerosene = mb/V = 24/30 =4/5= 0.8 g/cc
