Solution

  1. The substances that can be easily magnetized and are attracted to magnets are known as magnetic materials.
  2. Cobalt, nickel, and iron are magnetic materials.
  3. Coins contain nickel in them, and thus are attracted to magnets.
  4. So, when a strong magnet is placed above the box containing coins then it will attract the nickel coins and copper coins will be left in the box.
  5. Thus, in this way a bar magnet can be used for separating copper and nickel coins.
