Solution

The correct option is C 250 torr
A box is divided into two equal compartments by a thin partition and they are filled with gases X and Y respectively. The two compartments have a pressure of 250 torr each. The pressure after removing the partition will be equal to 250 torr.
For two compartments, pressure, temperature and volume are same. Hence, the number of moles of two gases are equal as n=PVRT.
When the partition is removed, the volume is doubled and the total number of moles are also doubled as compared to individual compartments. Hence, the pressure remains unchanged at 250 torr.
P=nRTV
