A boy carries a load of 100 N to a horizontal distance of 100 m. The work done by the body is:
Workdone = Force×displacement
Force in the direction of motion = 0 N
Distance = 100 m
∴Workdone = 0×100 = 0 N−m
Work done by the object = force applied by the object x distance moved in the direction of the force. Force applied by the body = its weight. Direction - vertically downwards. Distance moved = 100 m. Since this is the horizontal distance, distance moved in the direction of the force = 0. Hence, the work done by the object is zero.
