Solution

Step 1:

Given :A boy moves 6 m towards east and 8 m towards north .

Step 2:

To find: Calculate the distance and displacement .

Formula

Distance= (A + B) m .

Displacement =A2+B2 m. .

Step 3:

Calculation

  1. The total distance travelled by the boy towards east and north is (D) =6 m + 8 m
  2. Hence, total distance travelled =14 m.
  3. The displacement (d) =62+82m.
  4. Displacement = 36+64m.
  5. Displacement (d) =100m.
  6. Displacement (d) =10 m

Step 4:

Hence, the distance and displacement are 14 m and 10 m.
