Question

A boy pulls a toy having two carriages placed on a frictionless table by applying a force of 1.5 newton at 30o in a vertical plane. Calculate (i) the acceleration of the 40g carriage, (ii) the acceleration of the 20g carriage and (iii) the tension in the string fastened between the two carriages.

Solution

As per the information, since both the toys are fastened by string so the acceleration of both the toys will be same and equal to the accleration of the system.

asystem=a40g=a20g=40g+20g1.5 cos60o=80g
Now for the 2nd carriageT=20×80g=1600g
the tension in the string fastened between the two carriages is = 1600g N.
