The correct option is C slightly away from the hand of his brother in the direction of motion of the train
Since train is going to stop therefore, velocity of apple and the person sitting below will be same before dropping the apple. Now as soon as apple drops it lost contact with the frame of reference of the train and since train is decelerating as well as person is decelerating with the train therefore, its velocity is getting slower and slower therefore, till the apple reaches to the hand some time has passed now since train is decelerating and apple is not and their initial velocities are same therefore, apple will fall just away from hand in the direction of motion of the train.
