The boy claps only when he hears an echo. Hence the time taken here is the time between successive claps and during this time interval, the wave travels a distance of 120m. Since the time taken between the first and the 51st clap is 18s, time interval between any two claps is 18/(51-1) =0.36secs

The velocity of the sound wave is V=120/0.36 = 333.33 m/s
