The correct option is A $40$ miles
Let distance traveled by bus be $X$ miles
Total distance $= 100$ miles
We know that, Speed $= \frac{d i s t a n c e}{t i m e} \Rightarrow$ Time $= \frac{d i s t a n c e}{s p e e d}$
$∴ \frac{100 - X}{30} + \frac{X}{40} = 3 \Rightarrow \frac{4000 - 40 X + 30 X}{1200} = 3 \Rightarrow 4000 - 10 X = 3600$
$X = \frac{400}{10} = 40$ miles
Hence, distance traveled by bus $= 40$ miles.
