Solution

Mechanical Advantage(MA): It is the ratio of the load(L) to the effort(E).

MA=LE

The weight of load given is=50kgf

Case I

In the case of the first boy uses a single fixed pulley MA1=1

MA1=50E11=50E1E1=50N

Case II

In the case of the second boy uses a movable pulley to lift the same load MA2=2

2=50E2E2=25N

Thus, the ratio of effort applied is,

E1E2=5025E1E2=21

Thus, the ratio of effort applied is 2:1.
