The string breaks and the stone flies off tangentially and strikes the ground after travelling a horizontal distance of 10 m. The correct option is B 163 m/s2

Let the speed of the stone be v when the string breaks. Time of flight for stone is given by :

T =2hg=2 × 29.8=0.64 sec

Kinematic equation in horizontal direction,

d=v×T10=v×0.6 ( ax = 0 )

v = 100.64 = 15.62 m/s

Thus, centripetal acceleration of stone during circular motion is

ac=v2R=162.7=163 m/s2
