Question

A brick having weight 30 N is 21 cm long, 10 cm wide and 6 cm high. The face of the brick on the ground having dimensions 21 cm and 6 cm is in contact with the ground. Find the pressure exerted on the ground by the face of brick.

Solution

Step 1: Given data

Force, F=30N

Length, L=21Cm

Breadth, B=6Cm

Step 2: Formula used

The formula for area and pressure is given as,

Area(A)=L×B

Pressure(P)=FA

Step 3: Finding the area

On putting all the values we have,

Area(A)=L×B=21cmx6cmA=126cm²=126×10-4m²

Step 4: Finding Pressure

On putting all the values we have,

P=FA=30126×10-4=2381Nm2=2381Pa.

Hence, the pressure exerted by the body is 2381 Pa.
