Question

A bullet is fired vertically with an initial velocity of 19.6 m/s.

(a) How high will it reach?

(b) What is the time taken to reach that height?

Open in App
Solution

(a) Here,

u = 19.6 m/s , v = 0 , a = -9.8 m/s2

v2=u2 + 2as

0 = 19.62 - (2 x 9.8 x s)

s = 19.6 m

It will reach a height of 19.6 m

(b) v = u + at

0 = 19.6 - 9.8t

t = 2s

So,time taken to reach the highest point is 2s.
