Convert them into equivalent fractions.
The multiples of 2 and 9 are
2 : 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18,...
9 : 9, 18, 27, 36, 45,...
The common multiple of 2 and 9 is 18.
Hence, we get,
$\frac{5}{9}$ = $\frac{5\times 2}{9\times 2}$ = $\frac{10}{18}$
$\frac{1}{2}$ = $\frac{1\times 9}{2\times 9}$ = $\frac{9}{18}$
