Question

(a) Calculate the value of V0 and I if the Si diode and the Ge diode start conducting at 0.7 V and 0.3 V respectively, in the given circuit.
(b) If the Ge diode connection be reversed. What will be the new values of V0 and I?

Solution

As in the given circuit,
Voltage,V=12V
Resistance,R=5kΩ
, current,I=120.35 kΩ=11.7 V5×103Ω=2.34mA
Output voltage V0=RI=(5×103)×(2.34×103)=11.7V
When the connections of Ge diode are reversed, then current will bw through silicon.
In this case, current,I=(120.7) V5×103Ω=2.26mA
, Output voltage,V0=IR
=(2.26×103)×(5×103)=11.3V
