Question

A capacitor C1=12 μF charged with voltage 4 V is connected across uncharged capacitor C2=4 μF and resistor 2 Ω. At t=0, switch S is closed. At t=t0, voltage across C1 is 3 V, then current in circuit (in A) at t=t0 is (Answer upto two decimal places )

Solution

Q=CV=12×4=48 μC
When V1=3 Vq1=12×3=36 μC
Q=q1+q2q2=12 μC
V2=q2C2=124=3 V
V 1 = q1C1 = 3612 = 3 V
By KVL,
V1=V2+iR
3 = 3 + iR
i=0 A
