Initially charges on the capacitors are calculated using Q=CV as shown in figure below.


From the law of conservation of charge,

Initial charge (qi)=Final charge(qf)

Let the final potential across both the capacitors be E. So,

CV+9CV=CE+3CE

Finally:


E=10V4=5V2

So, the final charge on C

qC=5V2×C=5CV2

Charge on 3C,

q3C=5V2×3C=15CV2

Hence, option (a) is correct answer.
