Question

A car accelerates from rest at a constant rate of α for some time, after which it decelerates at a constant rate of β to come to rest. If the total time elapsed is t second, then calculate
a. the maximum velocity attained by the car, and
b.the total displacement travelled by car in terms of α,β and t.

Solution

(a) V0=0+α(t1)t1=V0/α
0=V0β(tt1)
V0=β(tV0α)
V0=βtβV0α
(1+βα)V0=βt
V0=βt(1+βα)
(b) Total displacement = area of graph -
=12×V0×t
=t2[βt1+β/α]
