Question

A car and a truck are moving at the same velocity of 60kmh-1 Which one has more kinetic energy ? (Mass of truck > Mass of the car)

Open in App
Solution

Step 1: Given data

Velocity is the same, hence v is constant and the mass of the truck >mass of the car

Step 2: Formula for Kinetic energy

Kinetic energy, K.E=12mv2

From the above, it is clear that Kinetic energy is directly proportional to the mass and the velocity.

Since the mass of the truck is >the mass of the car, the kinetic energy of the truck will also be greater than the car.

Hence, the kinetic energy of the truck>kinetic energy of the car.
