Question

A car begins to move at time t=0 and then accelerates along a straight track with a velocity given by V(t)=2t2 ms1 for 0t2, where t is time in second. After the end of acceleration, the car continues to move at a constant speed. A small block initially at rest on the floor of the car begins to slip at t=1 s and stops slipping at t=3 s. The coefficient of static and kinetic friction between the block and the floor are μs and μk respectively. Find the value of 3μsμk (g=10 ms2)

Solution

V=2t2
a=4t
at t=1 sec, slipping occur
ma=μsmg
4t=μsg
μs=0.4
t=1t=3 slipping occurs between t=1 & t=3 sec
(4tμkg)=dVrdt
Vr=[2t2μkgt]21,Vr=2×3μkg
0=Vrμkgt
0=Vrμkg
μk=0.3,3μsμk=4
