Solution

The correct option is A 26 mpg
Upon writing down the distance that can be covered across each route, we get:

Downhill highway20 miles×4 =80 miles

Downhill unpaved20 miles×3 =60 miles

Uphill unpaved20 miles×1 =20 miles

Uphill paved20 miles×2 =40 miles

Uphill highway20 miles×3 =60 miles

Calculating the average distance that could be covered, we get:

Average=80+60+20+40+605 =52 miles

Total amount of fuel in the tank=2 gal

Fuel efficiency (mpg)=522 =26 mpg
