Solution

The correct option is C 54.78 km/hr
Before reflection of sound, the horn of the car will act as source and the fixed wall as observer.

From Doppler's effect formula, frequency received at the wall
f1=(v+vovvs)×f0=(vvu)×f0 ...(1)
where f0=440 Hz

After reflection of sound, fixed wall will act as source emitting frequency f1 and the driver of the car as observer.

So, frequency observed by the driver
f2=(v+vovvs)×f1=(v+uv)×f1 ...(2)

From (1) and (2),
f2=(v+uv)×(vvu)×f0
f2=(v+uvu)×f0
480=(350+u350u)×440
1211=350+u350u
12×35012×u=11×350+11×u
23u=350
u=35023 m/s =35023×185=54.78 km/hr
Why this question?

It tests your recalling power for the formula of Doppler's effect to apply in different cases.
