Solution

The correct option is B 35 km/h
First part of motion:
Time, t1=1 h
Speed, v1=40 km/h
Distance travelled:
s1=v1t
s1=40 km/h×1 h
s1=40 km

Second part of motion:
Time, t2=0.5 h
Speed, v2=60 km/h
Distance travelled:
s2=v2t
s2=60 km/h×0.5 h
s2=30 km

Third part of motion:
Time, t3=1.5 h
Speed, v3=30 km/h
Distance travelled:
s3=v3t
s3=30 km/h×1.5 h
s3=45 km

Total distance:
s=s1+s2+s3
s=40 km+30 km+45 km
s=115 km

Total time taken:
t=t1+t2+t3
t=1 h+0.5 h+1.5 h
t=3 h

Average speed:
v=st
v=115 km3 h
v=38.3 km/h
