By law of conservation of momentum
miu1+m2u2=m1v1+m2v2
m1=1000
m2=2000
u1=12
u2=8
v1=9
v2=?

So substituting values
100012+20008=10009+2000v2
12000+16000=9000+2000v2
28000-9000=2000v2
19000/2000=v2
9.5=v2

So 9.5m/s is the answer.
