Question

A car of mass 1000 kg travels at 12 m/s on a horizontal and the resistance to motion is 500 N. Find (a) its momentum.

Open in App
Solution

Step 1: Given data

Mass of the car is, m=1000kg

Velocity is, v=12m/s

Resistance (force) is, F=500N

Step 2: Calculating momentum

Momentum is given as,

p=mv

where, m is mass and v is velocity.

Substituting the known values, we get,

p=1000kg×12m/sp=12000p=1.2×104Ns

Therefore, momentum is 1.2×104Ns.
