A car of mass 1000 kg travels at 12 m/s on a horizontal and the resistance to motion is 500 N. Find (b) its kinetic energy.

Mass of the car is, m=1000kg

Velocity is, v=12m/s

Resistance (force) is, F=500N

Step 2: Calculating kinetic energy

Kinetic energy is given as,

KE=12mv2

where, m is mass and v is velocity.

Substituting the known values, we get,

KE=12×1000kg×12m/s2KE=1000×1442KE=72000KE=7.2×104J

Therefore, kinetic energy is 7.2×104J.
