Question

A car travel with a constant velocity of 27km/h for 10 min and then decelerates for 10 min before coming to rest . Find the total distance traveled by the car.

Open in App
Solution

Initial velocity of the car=27 km/h

Time travelled=10 mint=
10/60=1/6 hours

Distance traveled=S1=27×1/6= 4.5 km

Deceleration of the car =(v-u)/t
=(0-27)/(1÷6)=-162km/h^-2

We know V^2=U^2+2as'

V=0(since the vehicle comes to rest)

0^2=27^2+2×(-162)×s'
-729=-324×s'
s'=-729/-324
s'=2.25km

So total distance=S1 + s'=4.5+2.25=6.75 km

Hope you got the idea.
