Question

A cement company earns a profit of Rs. 9 per bag of white cement sold and a loss of Rs. 5 per bag of grey cement sold. What is the number of white cement bags it must sell to have neither profit nor loss, if the number of grey bags sold is 5400.

Open in App
Solution

Profit on white cement bag =Rs.+9
Loss on grey cement bag =Rs.5

Loss on 1 bag of grey cement =Rs.5
Loss on 5400 bag of grey cement =(5)×5400=Rs.27000

Let the number of bags of white cement be x.
Profit on 1 bag of white cement =Rs.+9
Profit on x bags of white cement =Rs.+9x

Now, Total profit/loss =0
Total profit + Total loss =0
9x+(27000)=0
9x=27000
x=270009
x=3000
Number of white bags sold =3000
