The gender of the child depends on the parental chromosomal segregation but does not depend on a single parent. The male sperm posses XY chromosome, whereas egg posses XX chromosome. So during fertilization female can give only X chromosome, whereas the male can give either X or Y chromosome. Zygote either posses XX(female) or XY(male) chromosome. If a couple has only daughters this means that every time sperm possessing only X chromosome of father fertilizes the egg of the female.
