A certain road accident patient with an unknown blood group needs an immediate blood transfusion. Which blood group could be administered immediately without matching the blood?
Blood group O
Persons with blood group O posses both anti-A and anti-B antibodies in their plasma but have no antigens in their RBCs. So, RBCs of blood group ‘O’ do not show clumping in any of the two sera. That’s why O group can be transfused to anyone irrespective of their blood group and is called a universal donor.
