Question

A charge of 24μC is given to a hollow metallic sphere of radius of 0.2cm Find the potential
(i) At the surface of the sphere, and
(ii) At a distance of 0.1cm from the centre of the sphere.

Solution

(i)

The potential at the sphere’s surface is given as,

V=14πε0×qr

V=9×109×24×1060.2×102

V=1.08×108V

(ii)

Since the potential at any point inside the sphere will be equal to the potential at the surface.

The potential at 0.1cm from the centre of the sphere is given as,

V=1.08×108V
