Question

A cheetah can achieve a peak velocity of 100 km per hour up to distances less than 500 meters. If the cheetah spots his prey at a distance of 100 meters. What is the minimum time it will take to get its prey if the average velocity attained by it is 90 km/h?

Solution

Step 1: Given

Peak average velocity of cheetah = 90 km/h =90×518=25 m/s

The displacement between cheetah and its prey = 100 m

Step 2: Formula used

Averagevelocity=TotaldisplacementTotaltime

Step 3: Finding total time

Averagevelocity=TotaldisplacementTotaltime

Total time = 10025=4 sec

Hence, the time required is 4 sec.
