To recover NH3 in solvary ammonia soda process Ca(OH)2 is used
2NH4Cl + Ca(OH)22NH3 + CaCl2 + 2H2O
On passing CO2 through Ca(OH)2, it turns milky due to the formation of CaCO3.
Ca(OH)2 + CO2 CaCO3+H2O


Ca(OH)2 is used for whitewashing due to disinfectant nature.
