If you have a sample of dirt ( $28.3$ g) that contains $1.0 \times 10^{- 4} %$ dioxin, the moles of dioxin in the dirt sample is expressed as $x \times 10^{- 8}$ mol. Find the value of $x$ as nearest integer.

The formula of dioxin $= C_{12} H_{4} C l_{4} O_{2}$
Molar mass of dioxin $= 12 (12) + 4 (1) + 4 (35.5) + 2 (16) = 322$ g/mol
Mass of dioxin $= \frac{28.3 \times 10^{- 4}}{100} = 2.83 \times 10^{- 5} g$
Number of moles of dioxin $= \frac{2.83 \times 10^{- 5}}{322} = 9 \times 10^{- 8} = x \times 10^{- 8}$
Hence, $x = 9$
