A chiral carbon has four different groups attached to it. So does this mean doubly or triply bonded carbon atoms cannot be chiral? Please explain.

Solution

All straight-chain alkyl group carbons(CH3 or CH2 units) will not be chiralcenters because these groups havetwo or more identical groups (the hydrogens) attached to the carbons. Neither will carbons on double or triplebonds be chiral centers because theycan't have bonds to four different groups.
