A chord 10 cm long is drwan in a circle whose radius is 52 cm . Find the areas of both the segments .

Let OD br the perpendicular fromO on AB.
Now in triangle AOD,
cosθ=BH
cosθ=552
cosθ=12
θ=45o

Then the angle made by the chord at centre=90o

Then area of the minor segment=(πθ360osinθ2cosθ2)r2
=(3.14412)(52)2
=(1.142)50
=28.5cm2

Area of the major segment,
= area of the circle area of the minor segment.
=π(52)228.5
=128.5cm2
