It is given that the chord PQ subtends a right angle at the focus S.
Therefore if the vertical angle of P is α, then Q=π2+α
1SP=1+ecosα and 1SQ=1+ecos(12π+α)=1esinα
(1SP1l)2+(1SQ1l)2
=(1+ecosαl1l)2+(1esinαl1l)2
=(ecosαl)2+(esin2αl)=e2l2
