Question

A circuit consists of a resistor of 1 ohm in series with a parallel arrangement of resistors of 6 ohms and 3 ohms. Calculate the total resistance of the circuit. Draw a diagram of the arrangement.

Solution

re

6 Ω and 3 Ω resistors are in parallel, so their equivalent resistance is given by

1R=16+13R=2 Ω

This 2 Ω resistance is connected with 1 Ω resistance in series.

So, equivalent resistance of the network = 2 Ω +1 Ω = 3 Ω
