Question

A circular coil of 20 turns and radius 10 centimetre carries a current of 5 ampere it is placed in a uniform magnetic field of 0.10 t find the torque acting on the coil when magnetic field is applied normal to the plane of coil in the Plane of the coil and find out the total force acting on the coil

Solution

Dear student

Given quantities are
no. of turns of coil= 20
radius of coil= 10 cm = 0.1 m, current in coil i = 5 A, magnetic field B = 0.10 T
The angle netween ara vector and magnetic field is ɵ = 00

i) The torque acting on coil T= niABsin ɵ
T = 20 x 3.14x(0.1)2x 0.10 x sin 0
Therefore T = 0

That is torque acting on coil is zero
ii) The forces on the coil acts in pairs. The forces on two opposite sides are equal and opposite to each other. Hence net force acting on coil is also zero
